Grand Jury Indicts Memphis Woman for Vehicular Homicide of Off-Duty Memphis Firefighter
MEMPHIS, TN – Shelby County District Attorney Bill Gibbons announced Friday that the state Grand Jury for Shelby County had indicted a Memphis woman for the death of an off-duty Memphis firefighter and the injury of another last November on Interstate-240.

The Grand Jury indicted Dolly Cox, 44, for vehicular homicide and aggravated assault.

The car driven by Cox struck Janeal Williams and Eddie Rone on November 18, 2007. The victims were on their parked motorcycles in the emergency lane on I-240 near the Millbranch exit. Williams died from his injuries. Memphis police conducted a criminal investigation into the incident which led to the indictment.

Cox was arrested Friday morning and is being held in the Shelby County Jail on $250,000. An arraignment date has not been set.

Vehicular homicide as the result of intoxication is a class B felony, which carries a standard sentence of 8-12 years in prison. Aggravated assault as the result of reckless behavior is a class D felony, which carries a standard sentence of 2-4 years in prison.

Assistant District Attorney Brooks Yelverton is prosecuting this case. Yelverton is assigned to the D.A.’s DUI Prosecution Task Force.
