MEMPHIS, TN – Shelby County District Attorney Bill Gibbons announced Thursday that a jury had convicted a Memphis man for shooting and killing a man in 2006 as the victim sat in his vehicle parked at an Oakhaven grocery store.
The jury found Darren Brown, 25, guilty as indicted for first degree murder. Brown will be sentenced to life in prison.
On April 23, 2006, the victim, Darren Taylor was shot multiple times as he sat in his parked car on the lot of 4625 Tchulahoma Road. The victim was transported to the Regional Medical Center where he died from his injuries. A witness positively identified Brown as the shooter.
The charge of first degree murder is covered under the D.A.’s “No Deals” policy on violent crimes. Exceptions are made to the policy for legal and ethical reasons.
Assistant District Attorneys Alanda Dwyer and Colin Campbell prosecuted this case in Criminal Court Division 8 before Judge Chris Craft.
