Cordova Teen Pleads Guilty to Vehicular Homicide
MEMPHIS, TN – Shelby County District Attorney Bill Gibbons announced Thursday that a Cordova teen pleaded guilty to recklessly causing a crash in 2007 on Germantown Parkway that killed two people and injured a third.

Brittney Petty pleaded guilty to the court on two counts of reckless vehicular homicide (a class C felony) and reckless aggravated assault (a class D felony). Petty faces three to six years in prison. A sentencing hearing is scheduled for December 10, 2008.

On June 6, 2007, Petty was driving a car down Germantown Parkway when she crashed into a vehicle at the intersection of Norwich Drive. A passenger inside Petty’s car, Mark Obert, 19, was killed. The driver of the other vehicle, Kylen Bares, 22, was also killed. A second passenger in Petty’s car was injured.

The Shelby County Grand Jury indicted Petty earlier this year. She is out of custody on $25,000 bond.

Assistant District Attorney Brooks Yelverton prosecuted this case. Yelverton handles cases assigned to the D.A.’s DUI Prosecution Task Force.
