MEMPHIS, TN – Shelby County District Attorney Bill Gibbons announced Friday that a Memphis man had been convicted for shooting a fellow passenger in the head, killing the man, while riding in a car through north Memphis in 2007.
The jury found Vincent Hunt, 30, guilty of first degree murder and especially aggravated kidnapping. Hunt, also known as “Lil C,” will receive life in prison for the murder charge and is scheduled to be sentenced for the robbery charge on December 19. As a previously convicted felon, Hunt faces the maximum 25-40 years in prison for the kidnapping charge. Hunt was convicted for attempted first degree murder in 1995 and had served 12 years in prison.
On March 1, 2007, Hunt was in the back seat of a car driving on North Second Street near Mud Island Drive. Leon Walker was sitting in the front passenger seat of the vehicle. Hunt pulled out a handgun and shot Walker in the head, killing him. Hunt then pointed the gun at the driver and ordered him to continue driving. The driver managed to escape out of the car in the 2700 block of North Second. Hunt jumped into the driver’s seat and fled the scene. Police later found the car behind a church on Whitney Avenue. Walker was slumped over in the passenger seat and was pronounced dead.
Memphis police homicide detectives arrested Hunt on March 5, 2007.
The charge of first degree murder is covered under the D.A.’s “No Deals” policy on violent crimes. Exceptions are made to the policy for legal and ethical reasons.
Assistant District Attorneys Paul Hagerman and Ray Lepone prosecuted this case, which was assigned to the D.A.’s Gang and Narcotics Prosecution Unit.
