Grand Jury Indicts Memphis Police Officer for Ticket-Fixing Allegation
MEMPHIS, TN – Shelby County District Attorney Bill Gibbons announced Wednesday that the state Grand Jury for Shelby County had indicted a Memphis police officer who allegedly had a traffic ticket dismissed for an acquaintance.

The Grand Jury indicted Ivory Robinson, 41, for tampering with or fabricating evidence. The indictment alleges that Robinson falsified documents with the intent to affect the outcome of an official proceeding. The indictment claims the offense occurred between June 5 and July 1 in 2008. The indictment goes on to say that Robinson submitted to the city court clerk an interoffice memorandum seeking to void a traffic ticket. The memo indicated that another officer had approved the request, when, in fact, he had not, according to the indictment.

This indictment is the result of an investigation conducted by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation along with the Memphis Police Department’s security squad.

“It is unacceptable when a police officer uses his position to fix a traffic ticket for anyone. Such actions undermine the integrity of our justice system,” said District Attorney Gibbons.
Robinson was taken into custody on Tuesday. He was released on $10,000 bond. An arraignment date has not yet been set.

Tampering with or fabricating evidence is a class C felony which carries a standard sentence of three to six years in prison.

Assistant District Attorneys William Bright and Byron Winsett are prosecuting this case. Both are assigned to the D.A.’s White Collar Crime Prosecution Unit.
