MEMPHIS, TN – Shelby County District Attorney Bill Gibbons announced Monday that the Memphis woman indicted for the 2007 death of an off-duty Memphis firefighter and the injury of another on Interstate-240 pleaded guilty to the crimes in criminal court.
Dolly Cox, 46, pleaded guilty to one county of vehicular homicide and one count of aggravated assault. Cox was sentenced to 7.2 years for the homicide and 1.8 years for the assault, to be served concurrently. The District Attorney’s office opposes probation in this case. Cox will ask for probation at hearing on May 28 in Criminal Court Division 5.
Cox was driving a vehicle on I-240 when she struck Janeal Williams and Eddie Rone on November 18, 2007. The victims were on their parked motorcycles in the emergency lane near the Millbranch exit. Williams died from his injuries. Memphis police conducted a criminal investigation into the incident which led to the indictment.
Assistant District Attorney Brooks Yelverton prosecuted this case.
