Man Pleads Guilty on Day of Robbery Trial

MEMPHIS – December 10, 2015 - A 19-year-old man charged with robbing a man last year at an Orange Mound car wash pleaded guilty as charged minutes after a jury was chosen for his trial this week, Shelby County Dist. Atty. Gen. Amy Weirich said Friday.
Defendant LaMarquise Johnson faces 8 to 12 years in prison when he is sentenced next month by Criminal Court judge W. Mark Ward.
A second defendant involved was handled in Juvenile Court and sent to the Department of Children’s Services.
The incident occurred the night of Feb. 13 last year when two suspects in ski masks approached a man at a car wash on Park near Haynes, forced him to the ground and robbed him at gunpoint.
The victim notified police who surrounded a wooded area near Melrose High School and used K-9 dogs to flush the suspects out from hiding.
Officers found the victim’s property near where the suspects were hiding and also found their ski masks and the gun used in the robbery.The case was handled by Asst. Dist. Atty. Omar Malik.
