Man Sentenced to 24 Years for Abusing Children

MEMPHIS – December 10, 2015 - A Whitehaven man convicted of raping two young children over a five-year period beginning in 2007 when one was just nine years old was sentenced to 24 years in prison Friday, said Shelby County Dist. Atty. Gen. Amy Weirich.
David Banks, 38, was convicted in September of two counts of aggravated sexual battery, attempted rape of a child and child abuse.
Criminal Court Judge Paula Skahan sentenced him on Friday.
The incidents involved two young girls who were sexually assaulted between April of 2007 and June of 2012. One victim was sexually molested by Banks for four years, beginning at age 9. The other victim was 12 years old when she and her best friend were assaulted.
Both girls were interviewed at the Child Advocacy Center and both testified at trial.
Banks was boyfriend of the mother of one of the victims.
The case was handled by Asst. Dist. Atty. Josh Corman of the DA’s Special Victims Unit which prosecutes cases of child sexual abuse and severe physical abuse of child victims; rape and aggravated rape of adult victims, and abuse of elderly and vulnerable adults.
