A Criminal Court jury Thursday convicted Jeri Anita Robinson, 47, of facilitation of theft of property over $10,000 and facilitation off vandalism over $1,000. She remains free on bond and will be sentenced in February by Judge Paula Skahan.
The owners of the home in the 5700 block of Glade View Drive said Robinson had been their cleaning lady for some six years and paid her $140 to feed their dogs and watch the house when they took a three-day trip to New Orleans in July of 2013. They said Robinson told them, “Don’t worry about anything.”
When they returned, however, their house was damaged and ransacked, empty wine and liquor bottles were scattered around, food was left out and thousands of dollars in jewelry was missing. A car they left in the driveway also was damaged and appeared to have been moved. A camcorder and two watches belonging to the family were found in the back seat.
The damage and missing property, including wedding band and ring and a Rolex watch, totaled more than $25,000, they said.Insurance covered most of the loss after a deductible, but the jewelry and rings were not recovered.
Robinson testified that she drank some of the alcohol, but that her boyfriend stole the jewelry. He was not charged.
The case was handled by Asst. Dist. Atty. Muriel Malone.
