Man Convicted in Aggravated Robbery of Friend

MEMPHIS – March 22, 2016 - A jury took less than an hour to convict a South Memphis man of robbing a longtime family friend of $68 and breaking his jaw with a pistol two years ago, Shelby County Dist. Atty. Gen. Amy Weirich said Tuesday.
Shanerick Abraham, 25, of the 1400 block of Driver faces 8 to 12 years in prison when he is sentenced May 4 by Criminal Court Judge Glenn Wright.
The incident occurred on Oct. 17, 2014, following a dice game in which Abraham became angry over losing money one of the other participants. As Abraham was robbing one man, another man, age 58, who tried to intervene also was robbed by the defendant.
Abraham began walking away, then turned and struck the second victim in the face with a pistol, knocking him to the ground and breaking his jaw. The two victims readily identified Abraham, noting that all three of them are from the same South Memphis neighborhood.
The case was handled by Asst. Dist. Atty. Austin Scofield.
