Johnny Brooks, 22, admitted killing Eric Hopson, also 22, during a fight on Jan. 11 of last year at the house they shared in the 4100 block of Kerwin Drive near Egypt-Central Park.
He was scheduled to be tried this week in Criminal Court, but entered a guilty plea several days before a jury was to be selected.
Hopson was reported missing three days after the stabbing and investigators searching the home on Kerwin found blood in the living room and noticed that a large green city garbage can for the house was missing. The garbage, with a large amount of blood inside and on the lid, was later found under a neighbor’s carport.
Brooks eventually told investigators that he killed Hopson during a knife fight and that he put the body in the trash can, took it to a wooded area nearby and hid the body under a tire, tree limbs and a large pile of leaves.
The case was handled by Asst. Dist. Attys. Greg Gilbert and Omar Malik.
