Man Indicted in Drive-By Killing Near Lounge

MEMPHIS – May 11, 2016 - A 23-year-old man has been indicted on first-degree murder and other charges related to a drive-by shooting last November outside a nightspot in southeast Memphis, Shelby County Dist. Atty. Gen. Amy Weirich said Wednesday.
Defendant Tony Bruins is accused of leaning from of a moving car and firing into a crowd of a half dozen people as they were leaving the Deuces Bar and Lounge at 5959 Winchester on Nov. 29.
James Rooks Jr., 22, was shot in the head and killed. Another person on the parking lot was hit in the leg, but not seriously injured.
Bruins also was indicted on five counts of attempted first-degree murder and five counts of employment of a firearm in the commission of a dangerous felony.
