MEMPHIS – A jury took just 28 minutes this week to find a man guilty of aggravated robbery in a Fourth of July holdup last year at the Prescott Place Apartments, Shelby County Dist. Atty. Gen. Amy Weirich said Friday.
Defendant Daniel Perez, 22, faces 8 to 12 years in prison when he is sentenced next month by Criminal Court Judge John Campbell. The jury returned its verdict Wednesday.
The holdup occurred outside the apartments near Prescott and Lamar when two men came up behind a resident, put handguns to the victim’s back and threatened to shoot him if he moved.
The robbers took the victim’s wallet containing $150 and fled in a Ford F-150 pickup truck. Witnesses gave police the truck’s tag number and officers later located the truck and Perez in the Willow Creek Apartments.
The victim identified Perez as one of the armed robbers. The second suspect has not been identified.
The case was handled by Asst. Dist. Attys. Olivia Brame and Leslie Byrd.
