Woman Indicted in Deaths of Girlfriend and Unborn Baby

MEMPHIS – October 28, 2016 - A 20-year-old woman has been indicted on two counts of first-degree murder in the shooting and stabbing death of her pregnant girlfriend last December, Shelby County Dist. Atty. Gen. Amy Weirich said Friday.
Jolene Watts is charged in the deaths of Latoria Hall, 20, and her unborn baby. Watts’s body was found in a ditch last Dec. 16 near 3566 Christine Road in the Oakhaven area of south Memphis. Her body was wrapped in a blanket and plastic.
Investigators said Watts shot Hall and stabbed her with a screwdriver during an argument three days earlier in Watts’s nearby apartment.
Also indicted was Shun Montgomery, 20, a friend of the defendant, who is charged with accessory after the fact and tampering with evidence. The case is being handled by Asst. Dist. Atty. Meghan Fowler of the DA’s Domestic Violence Prosecution Unit that prosecutes felony cases of domestic assault and homicide committed by intimate partners.
The Unit also works closely with the Shelby County Family Safety Center to provide services and assistance to victims and their families.
