Pair Convicted in Robbery of Pedestrian

MEMPHIS – November 10, 2016 - Two men in a car with a shotgun have been convicted of robbing a pedestrian of his watch and a beer two years ago in the Castalia Heights area of South Memphis, Shelby County Dist. Atty. Gen. Amy Weirich said Thursday.
Defendants Demarcus Kerr and Andrew Debose-Maben, both 21, were convicted of aggravated robbery and face 8 to 12 years in prison when they are sentenced next month by Criminal Court Judge Chris Craft.The incident occurred around 11 a.m. on May 2, 2014, as the 47-year-old victim was walking down South Cooper near Lowell Avenue. He said a gold Chevrolet Malibu pulled alongside him and that the passenger pointed a shotgun at him and demanded his belongings. The victim surrendered his Dallas Cowboys watch and a can of Bud Light beer. The robbers fled in their vehicle, but were captured a short time later in the 3000 block of Tillman Cove. Inside the vehicle police found the shotgun and the watch belonging to the victim. The case was handled by Asst. Dist. Atty. Jose Leon.
