Woman Indicted on Vehicular Homicide, DUI Charges

MEMPHIS – A Whitehaven woman has been indicted on vehicular homicide, drunken driving and other charges stemming from the traffic death this summer of a man who had stopped to help another accident victim, Shelby County Dist. Atty. Gen. Amy Weirich said Tuesday.
    Linda Cartwright, 56, who has at least four prior DUI convictions dating to 1987, also was indicted on aggravated vehicular homicide, leaving the scene of an accident and reckless driving.
    She is being held in the Shelby County Jail on $250,000 bond.
    Cartwright is charged in the death of Charles Butner, 62, of Missouri who was struck and killed on June 16 as he was trying to help a motorcyclist injured in an accident at East Brooks Road and Coughlin Drive near her home.
    The case is being handled by Asst. Dist. Atty. Michael McCusker.
