Shelby County Dist. Atty. Gen. Amy Weirich and other District Attorneys from across Tennessee recently joined prosecutors from 25 other states to discuss legal issues and procedures led by the Prosecutors’ Center for Excellence in Washington.
The one-day meeting included discussions on protocols for investigating police use-of-force cases, ethics policies and law enforcement use of eyewitness identification.
The Prosecutors Center for Excellence is a think tank that provides policy advice to prosecutors working to improve the criminal justice system and supports the establishment of statewide prosecutor-led best practices committees.
Tennessee is among 22 states where District Attorneys have formed best-practices committees aimed to improving the criminal justice system. The sessions followed the National District Attorneys Association’s 2017 Capitol Conference.
