Man Admits to 2014 Fatal Shooting Near Wells Station

MEMPHIS – Mar. 7, 2017 - A man accused in the fatal shooting death three years ago of a 31-year-old man has pled guilty to voluntary manslaughter, Shelby County Dist. Atty. Gen. Amy Weirich said Tuesday.
Defendant Samuel Hernendez, 29, entered his plea in Criminal Court where Judge Lee Coffee sentenced him to six years in prison.
The victim, Santos Castillo, a native of El Salvador, was shot several times outside a party around 5 a.m. on March 16, 2014, in the 4200 block of Reed Avenue near Wells Station Road in northeast Memphis.
The case was handled by Asst. Dist. Attys. Austin Scofield and Chris Lareau.
