Man Indicted on Murder Charges in Orange Mound Shooting

April 5, 2017 – A 39-year-old man has been indicted on first-degree murder and other charges related to a shooting last fall during an argument in which one man was killed and another was shot in the foot, Shelby County Dist. Atty. Gen. Amy Weirich said Wednesday.
Defendant Eric Garner also was indicted on three counts of aggravated assault. He is being held without bond in the Shelby County Jail.
The shooting occurred last Oct. 11 at a residence in the 500 block of Baltimore in the Orange Mound area where victim Robert Seymour, 47, died of multiple gunshot wounds. Garner also shot Charles Murphy, 49, in the right foot and threatened to shoot a 25-year-old woman at the scene.
The case is being handled by Asst. Dist. Atty. Karen Cook, division leader and chief prosecutor of the DA’s Special Prosecution Unit (SPU) in Criminal Court Division 8. SPU seeks maximum punishment for repeat felony offenders.
