April 5, 2017 – A former employee for a roofing repair company was indicted Tuesday for allegedly pocketing more than $10,000 in payments from customers that should have been turned over to the company, said Shelby County Dist. Atty. Gen. Amy Weirich.
A Shelby County Grand Jury indicted Wesley Shawn McDonald, 44, of Cordova, was indicted on felony theft of property over $10,000, identity theft and forgery. He is free on $25,000 bond.
McDonald, a former employee of TN Home Improvers, DBA Brian Elder Roofing, is alleged to have convinced customers to endorse insurance checks for roofing repairs and forging the signature of a company official on the back of the check.
McDonald also made imprints on the back of the checks with a phony rubber stamp bearing the company name, investigators said.
In other instances, McDonald had customers write personal checks to him instead of to the company and persuaded some customers to pay him in cash. The money was not turned over to the company, but was pocketed by McDonald, according to investigators.
The incidents occurred between June and October of 2015.
