Man Convicted of Forgery, Identity Theft

Nov. 10, 2017 – A Florida man was convicted Thursday of identity theft and forgery over $1,000 for trying to cash a $7,741 forged check drawn on an innocent customer’s account, said Shelby County Dist. Atty. Gen. Amy Weirich.
Alejandro Batista, 35, of Kissimmee, Fla., also was convicted of resisting official detention when he struggled with the police officer who arrested him on Oct. 17, 2014, at a bank branch in the 200 block of North Cleveland.
Batista, who represented himself in the trial, is scheduled to be sentenced Dec. 11 by Criminal Court Judge James Beasley Jr. He remains free on $1,000 bond.
The case was handled by Asst. Dist. Atty. Dennis Johnson.
