Career Offender Convicted Again

Feb. 15, 2018 – A man with more than 50 prior criminal convictions has been found guilty of burglary of a motor vehicle, Shelby County Dist. Atty. Gen. Amy Weirich said Thursday.
Defendant Ernest Ervin, 48, faces up to 6 years in prison when he is sentenced on March 22 by Criminal Court Judge W. Mark Ward.
Ervin was convicted late Wednesday of burglarizing a car on Aug. 8, 2016, parked in the 500 block of Techno Lane in the Edison Apartments near Downtown. The owner said $10 to $15 in change was taken from his car.
Ervin was known to loiter on the property and was immediately identified by a police officer who reviewed a video surveillance recording of the incident.
The defendant has previously been convicted of 11 felonies and 43 misdemeanors, including assaults, thefts, burglaries and driving offenses.
The case was handled by Asst. Dist. Atty. Holly Palmer.
