April 12, 2018 – A Raleigh man was indicted Thursday on first-degree premeditated murder charges and arson in connection with the death of a 21-year-old woman whose body was found in a burning house two years ago, said Shelby County Dist. Atty. Gen. Amy Weirich.
Defendant Cordell Walton, 23, is charged with shooting 21-year-old Khadijah Perry and then setting fire to the home in the 3700 block of Mountain Terrace where her body was found on March 1, 2016. An autopsy showed she died of the gunshot wound.
Nine days later the victim’s car was found burning in a wooded area near Hawkins Mill Road and Point Church Road in the Frayser-Raleigh area. Walton also was indicted Thursday on the felony charge of setting fire to the personal property of the victim.
During the investigation, Walton was developed as a suspect and was arrested and charged on July 12, 2017, after witnesses said he had talked of killing the victim.
The case is being handled by Asst. Dist. Atty. Glen Baity.
