June 22, 2018 – A 19-year-old man has been indicted on premeditated first-degree murder charges involving the shooting death last year of a man found outside his car in a park in southwest Memphis, Shelby County Dist. Atty. Gen. Amy Weirich said Friday.
Donavint Hargrow, who also was indicted on murder in the perpetration of a theft, is being held without bond in the Shelby County Jail.
At around 7 a.m. on May 18 last year, police found the body of Alec Phillip Jr. shot multiple times outside of his car in O.L. Cash Park in the 3600 block of Ford Road. His car also was ransacked and the two front doors were left open.
Following an investigation, Hargrow was arrested on Feb. 26 this year and charged in the death. Investigators said that after the shooting, Hargrow left and returned to the scene and stole $700 from the victim’s vehicle.
The case is being handled by Asst. Dist. Atty. Stephanie Johnson.
