Caretaker Indicted on Theft, Forgery, Neglect

July 25, 2018 – A 75-year-old caretaker for an elderly woman has been indicted on charges of theft, forgery, and adult abuse and neglect for allegedly stealing thousands of dollars from an elderly victim’s bank account and fraudulently gaining possession of her automobile, Shelby County Dist. Atty. Gen. Amy Weirich said Wednesday.
A grand jury indicted Roman Garner on six felony counts accusing him of forging three checks totaling $12,600, presenting fraudulent documents to obtain possession of her 2008 Honda Civic, and failing to properly care for the woman in her late 80s.
In September of 2016, she was admitted to a hospital after she was found in a filthy home and was intoxicated. She was incapacitated, could not physically or mentally manager her personal affairs, and later transferred to a nursing home. She passed away last November.
Garner is free on bond of $30,000.
