Aug. 7, 2018 – Three men have been indicted on first-degree felony murder charges in connection with the shooting death of a 38-year-old woman last November and the wounding of a man the previous evening, Shelby County Dist. Atty. Gen. Amy Weirich said Tuesday.
A grand jury also indicted Jutarian Malone, 20, Earl King, 21, Cortez Folson, 20, and Ryan Mobley, 21, on charges of attempted first-degree murder, attempted especially aggravated robbery and employment of a firearm in the commission of a dangerous felony.
Mobley was not indicted in the murder case because he was wounded in the leg the previous night on Nov. 19, 2017, when he and the others beat and shot a man outside a food market in the 1800 block of Burnham in Frayser. In an exchange of gunfire, the victim was struck in his left calf and Mobley was hit in the upper left leg.
Investigators said that the following night, with Mobley recovering from his gunshot wound, the other three defendants were riding in the same vehicle when they approached Samantha Knight who was carrying a bag on Jackson Avenue near Chelsea. She was shot in the neck and robbed of the bag, which contained two Bibles and assorted papers.
The case is being handled by Kirby May, chief prosecutor of the DA’s Community Prosecution Unit in Criminal Court Division 6 which handles all felony case out of the Raleigh-Frayser area’s Old Allen Precinct.
