Man Indicted in Cold Case Murder

Munn Munn
Aug. 16, 2018 – A 48-year-old man has been indicted on first-degree felony murder charges involving the shooting death of another man nearly 11 years ago, Shelby County Dist. Atty. Gen. Amy Weirich said Thursday.
Defendant Ricky Munn also was indicted on charges of especially aggravated robbery. He is being held in the Shelby County Jail without bond.
Investigators said Derrick Hamlin, 33, was shot to death on Dec. 20, 2007, in the 4600 block of Winchester during a struggle with a man who was trying to rob him.
The investigation went cold, however, and no arrests were made until November of 2017. On that date Memphis police investigators were informed by agents with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation that a latex glove recovered from the crime scene had been linked to Munn through the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS.)
Munn was arrested in February of this year in the 6300 block of East Holmes Road.
The case is being handled by Chief Prosecutor Karen Cook and Asst. Dist. Atty. Abby Wallace, both of the DA’s Special Prosecution Unit in Division 8 of Criminal Court.
The SPU seeks maximum sentencing for repeat felony offenders.
