Bikes for Perfect Attendance in 6th Year

Sept. 12, 2018 – A rally will be held at 9 a.m. Friday at Dunbar Elementary School for the announcement that the Bikes-for-Perfect-Attendance event will be held for the 6th year for participating Shelby County schools, said Shelby County Dist. Atty. Gen. Amy Weirich.
This year a record 30 schools are participating in the Every DAy in School program (formerly known as the DA’s Truancy Reduction Mentoring Program), double the number from previous years. Students in those schools will receive a free bicycle and helmet at the end of the school year if they have perfect attendance and no tardy days.
“This program gets bigger and better each year,” said Gen. Weirich. “We are grateful to our sponsors, to our police officers, to our volunteers, and especially to our parents and grandparents and guardians who get the children to school each and every day.”
Friday’s rally will include Memphis Police Director Michael Rallings, officers with the Community Outreach Program (C.O.P.) and Sgt BIGGS.
The program is sponsored by the Hyde Family Foundation, FedEx, Walmart, Monogram Foods, Nucor Steel, the Rotary Club of Memphis, the Memphis Hightailers Bicycle Club, and All About Bikes.
The rally also will be live-streamed to participating schools, including Gardenview Elementary, Geeter Middle, Georgian Hills Middle, Grandview Middle, Hamilton Middle, Hawkins Mill Elementary, Hickory Ridge Elementary, Hickory Ridge Middle, Holmes Road Elementary, Humes Middle, Keystone Elementary, Levi Elementary, Lucie E Campbell Elementary, Lucy Elementary, Magnolia Elementary, Raleigh Bartlett Meadows, Ridgeway Middle, Ross Elementary, Sherwood Middle, Springdale Elementary, Treadwell Middle, Westside Middle, Winridge Elementary and Woodstock Middle.
Humes Middle and Westside Middle are Frayser Community Schools.
Dunbar Elementary is at 2606 Select Ave. in Orange Mound.
