Defendant Melvin Summerville, 40, is being held without bond.
His wife, Anitra Summerville, 42, was reported missing by her sister on April, 6, 2017, after she had not been seen for a week. Four days later, her car was located in the 3500 block of Crow in Memphis and towed to a wrecking company car lot in Horn Lake.
When an employee of the wrecker service began to inventory the vehicle, he found the body of Mrs. Summerville in the trunk. The cause of death was multiple gunshot wounds.
Investigators said she had been the victim of multiple domestic violence incidents in which her husband was identified as the suspect.
The case is being handled by Asst. Dist. Atty. Jamie Kidd of the DA’s Domestic Violence Prosecution Unit which prosecutes felony cases of domestic assault and homicide committed by intimate partners. The Unit also works closely with the Shelby County Family Safety Center to provide services and assistance to victims and their families.
