Shawn Moore, 27, was indicted on reckless homicide charges in the death of baby Robbin Keefer, as well as aggravated child neglect, being a convicted felon in possession of a handgun and tampering with evidence.
Police said the incident occurred on Nov. 10, 2017, in a bedroom at an apartment on South Mendenhall just north of Winchester Road. They said Moore had a pistol in his waistband and was seated on the side of a bed when the baby’s mother put her down.
Moore told investigators he put the pistol down on the bed within reach of the baby’s 3-year-old brother who also was in the bedroom. Moore said he forgot about the pistol and that moments later he heard a gunshot.
Moore said he then heard the children’s mother shouting the boy’s name and saw the baby with a gunshot wound to the head. The baby died later at a hospital.
The case is being handled by Asst. Dist. Atty. Jose Leon.
