Man Indicted in Raleigh Robbery, Murder

March 8, 2019 – A 23-year-old man has been indicted on first-degree felony murder charges in the robbery and shooting death of a teen last year in Raleigh, said Shelby County Dist. Atty. Gen. Amy Weirich.
A grand jury also indicted defendant Rayshun Townsend on especially aggravated robbery charges. He is being held in the Shelby County Jail.
The incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. in an apartment parking lot in the 2800 block of Summit Arbors Circle near Covington Pike and Raleigh-Lagrange Road.
The victim, Jaylan Talley, 19, was shot twice by Townsend who also robbed him of $700. Talley was taken to a hospital by private vehicle and was pronounced dead about an hour later.
The case is being handled by Chief Prosecutor Kirby May of the DA’s Community Prosecution Unit in Criminal Court Division 6 which handles all felony cases out of the Raleigh-Frayser area’s Old Allen Precinct.
