Teen Indicted in South Memphis Homicide

July 12, 2019 – A South Memphis teen has been indicted on first-degree murder charges stemming from the shooting death last year of a 16-year-old boy, said Shelby County Dist. Atty. Gen. Amy Weirich.
Keylone Jones, 18, is being held on $160,000 bond.
Witnesses said Jones and two other youths walked up to a residence in the 500 block of Jacklyn Ave. at South Lauderdale on Oct. 9, 2018, and began shooting at Michael Hawkins Jr.
Hawkins was struck in the chest and died later at a hospital. Two other juveniles were questioned and released. 
The case is being handled by Chief Prosecutor Stephanie Johnson of the DA’s Vertical Team 2 which handles all cases in General Sessions Division 9 and Criminal Court Division 2.
