Prestige Brown also was indicted on charges of tampering with evidence.
An investigation showed that Brown and two women were at the Peppertree Apartments in Whitehaven on Dec. 20, 2018, smoking marijuana when he showed them a handgun he had bought. While showing them how to take the gun apart, Brown applied pressure to the trigger, causing it to fire a shot into the chest of Denisha Jones.
After the shooting, Brown ran down the stairs with the pistol and threw it over a fence that borders the apartments.
He later admitted recklessly shooting the victim. His account was corroborated by the other woman who was in the apartment.
The case is being handled by Chief Prosecutor Stephanie Johnson and Felony Asst. Will Cranford of the DA’s Vertical Team 2 which handles all cases from General Sessions Division 9 and Criminal Court Division 2.
