Four Charged in Baby’s Shooting Death

July 24, 2019 – Four people have been indicted on felony murder charges in the death of a 2-year-old girl who was struck in the head during a shootout through an apartment door last November in southeast Memphis, said Shelby County Dist. Atty. Gen. Amy Weirich.
Those indicted include the parents of Anaya Boyd who was caught in the gunfire as she sat on the floor around 1:30 a.m. on Nov. 20 last year in the apartment on Hickory Meadow Lane in Fox Meadows.
Indicted on charges of first-degree murder in the perpetration of aggravated child abuse and aggravated child neglect are the child’s father, Mikal Grogan, 24; her mother, Taylor Boyd, 23; Jermichael Davis, 27, and Mitchell Conrad, 23. All are in custody.
Investigators said those inside the apartment were shooting dice, smoking high-grade marijuana and selling marijuana to a steady stream of buyers who visited the apartment. At one point, someone knocked at the door and began shooting through the door. The gunfire was returned from inside the apartment, including multiple shots from a high-velocity rifle.
The defendants, who all were inside the apartment, are accused of knowingly placing the baby in a situation that adversely affected her health and welfare. The outside shooter has not been identified.
The case is being handled by Chief Prosecutor Eric Christensen of the DA’s Special Victims Unit which prosecutes cases of child sexual abuse and severe physical abuse of child victims; rape and aggravated rape of adult victims, and abuse of elderly and vulnerable adults.
