Man Sentenced to 40 Years in Hotel Shootings

Sept. 20, 2019 – A Frayser man pled guilty Friday to killing one person and critically injuring another while seeking to avenge an earlier dispute at a Parkway Village-area motel last year, said Shelby County Dist. Atty. Gen. Amy Weirich.
Defendant Dave Wooten, 27, pled guilty in Criminal Court to second-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, and employment of a firearm in the commission of a dangerous felony.
He was sentenced to 40 years in prison in the settlement approved by Judge Glenn Wright.
The incident occurred on Aug. 6, 2018, at the Garden View Hotel at 3419 American Way where surveillance cameras showed Wooten pulling a gun from his pocket and shooting 26-year-old Brandon Lipsey at least five times.
Wooten then shot a 24-year-old female victim multiple times, critically injuring her.
The case was handled by Felony Assts. Jimmy Thomas and Will Cranford of the DA’s Vertical Team 2 which handles cases in General Sessions Division 9 and Criminal Court Division 2.
