A Shelby County Grand Jury indicted defendant Terry Moton, now 19, on charges of first-degree murder. He is free on a $500,000 bond.
An investigation showed that on Feb. 7, 2019, victim Eric Monger, 26, was found shot multiple times in a parking lot on Kingsgate Drive in the New Horizon Apartments in Whitehaven.
Investigators received information that Moton, also known as Pookie, believed Monger had stolen a handgun belonging to him and that he, Moton, had threatened to get an assault rifle and kill him.
Witnesses later identified Moton as the person who shot and killed Monger.
The case is being handled by Asst. Dist. Atty. Will Muller of the DA’s Crime Strategies & Narcotics Prosecution Unit which incorporates and expands the work of the Multi-Agency Gang Unit, the Organized Crime Unit, Project Safe Neighborhood/Gundone, GunStat, the Safe Streets Task Force and the Violent Crime Unit.
