Career Burglar Gets 24 Years in Prison

MEMPHIS, TN -October 18, 2013 - A serial burglar with nearly three dozen previous criminal convictions was sentenced to 24 years in prison for burglarizing a liquor store and a coffee shop two years ago.
Marcus Moore, 40, pleaded guilty in July to stealing several cases of soft drinks on March 9, 2011, from Republic Coffee at 2924 Walnut Grove Road after breaking out a side window.
Six days later he broke a front window at Central Wine and Spirits at 2847 Poplar and stole three bottles of liquor. In that case, Moore was captured on video surveillance cameras.
He was sentenced as a career offender by Criminal Court Judge Lee Coffee, which means he must serve at least 14 years of his 24-year sentence to become eligible for parole.
Moore has 24 prior misdemeanor convictions and 11 prior felony convictions.
The case was handled by assistant district attorney Katie Ratton.
