MEMPHIS – A Millington-area man convicted this weekend of raping a young girl has been sentenced to 25 years in prison with no parole, Shelby County Dist. Atty. Gen. Amy Weirich said Monday.
A Criminal Court jury on Saturday convicted Cassidy Johnson, 29, of fondling and raping the girl between August of 2009 and March of 2011, beginning when she was six years old. The incidents occurred at his residence on Moonview Road near Millington.
By law, Judge W. Mark Ward automatically sentenced Johnson to 25 years in prison without the possibility for parole. The defendant also must register as a sex offender and was placed on community supervision for life.
Johnson, a construction worker, also is charged with fondling a nine-year-old girl who was a witness in the case. Charges of abusing a witness will be tried separately.
Johnson is being held in the Shelby County Jail.
The case was handled by assistant district attorneys Terre Fratesi and Cavett Ostner of the Special Victims Unit (SVU).
The SVU prosecutes cases of child sexual abuse and severe physical abuse of child victims; rape and aggravated rape of adult victims, and abuse of elderly and vulnerable adults.
SVU reviews child-victim cases cooperatively with Shelby County’s multi-agency Child Protection Investigative Team.
