MEMPHIS – An Oakhaven man been convicted of first-degree murder in a 2011 shooting following a birthday party in Frayser, Shelby County Dist. Atty. Gen. Amy Weirich said Tuesday.
Lederrius Thomas, 20, was automatically sentenced to life in prison for the murder of 16-year-old Rickey Mayes and faces 15 to 25 years in prison for the attempted murder of Tarin Harris.
The shootings occurred on Oct. 2, 2011, following a birthday party in the 3100 block of Melbourne in Frayser. Witnesses said Harris, 20, and Mayes got into a vehicle to leave, but that Harris had to stop because people were in the street.
Thomas then walked up to the vehicle and fired several shots, killing Mayes and wounding Harris. The defendant was developed as a suspect and admitted shooting several times into the vehicle.
Thomas will be sentenced for attempted first-degree murder on April 25 by Criminal Court Judge Chris Craft.
The case was prosecuted by assistant district attorneys Alanda Dwyer and Ann Schiller.
