MEMPHIS - May 19, 2014 - A Memphis man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison with no parole for his conviction of sexually assaulting a 7-year-old girl in 2011, Shelby County Dist. Atty. Gen. Amy Weirich said Monday.
Clinton Austin was convicted in November of aggravated sexual battery for the assault on the girl who is an extended family member. The sentencing had been delayed because the defense attorney had medical issues to address.
The incident occurred Feb. 12, 2011, in a bathroom at a residence on Nathan Avenue near Summer and Highland. The girl’s mother had just returned home and became suspicious when she saw Austin and the child coming out of the bathroom.
Austin, 51, also has been placed on the Tennessee Sex Offender Registry and will be under community supervision for life.
The Criminal Court case was handled by assistant district attorney Terre Fratesi of the Special Victims Unit.
The unit prosecutes cases of sexual abuse and severe physical abuse of child victims, rape of adult victims, and abuse of elderly and vulnerable adults. SVU reviews child cases cooperatively with the Child Protection Investigative Team (CPIT).
