Man Sentenced to 20 Years for Rape of Girlfriend

MEMPHIS - June 6, 2014 - A man convicted earlier this year of raping his girlfriend was sentenced to 20 years in prison with no parole, said Shelby County Dist. Atty. Amy Weirich.
Alvin Stewart, 52, forced the woman to have sex with him on Feb. 10 of last year in their residence in the 3500 block of Tchulahoma.
The woman, then 52, told the Criminal Court jury that Stewart ripped her panties off, choked her until she passed out while raping her and then hit her in the face and bit her on the arm.
She said Stewart also kicked her dog during the attack.
Stewart was convicted of aggravated rape and aggravated assault and was sentenced by Judge John Campbell.
He also sentenced Stewart to six years for aggravated assault which will be served concurrently.
The case was handled by assistant district attorneys Carla Taylor and Glenda Adams.
