MEMPHIS - June 2, 2014 - An off-duty sheriff’s deputy from Mississippi was indicted of aggravated assault stemming from a shooting in April on Beale Street, said Shelby County Dist. Atty. Gen. Amy Weirich.
John Logan, 25, of Pontotoc County shot a Louisiana man several times during a scuffle around 1:30 a.m. on April 12 at Beale Street and November 6th Street.
According to police investigators, the shooting occurred after a fight broke out involving at least a half dozen men and women and ended when Logan pulled a .380-cal. pistol from an ankle holster and began firing.
Mark Martinez, 27, of Baton Rouge was hospitalized in critical condition with multiple gunshot wounds.
Logan and Martinez both told investigators that they had been drinking that evening.
