MEMPHIS - June 23, 2014 - A man who pleaded guilty in May to raping a 6-year-old girl was sentenced to 32 years in prison, Shelby County Dist. Atty. Gen. Amy Weirich said.
Glenn Harris, 52, admitted forcing the girl to have sex with him on Sept. 29, 2012, at an apartment in the 500 block of Richmond in South Memphis.
Harris ran away when two adults entered the room and saw him sexually assaulting the young girl who was a distant relative of his.
He pleaded guilty in May to rape of a child, telling the court that he was guilty and that he did not want the victim to have to come to court and testify.
Harris was sentenced by Criminal Court Judge Bobby Carter.
The case was handled by assistant district attorney Carrie Shelton, chief prosecutor of the DA’s Special Victim’s Unit (SVU).
The unit prosecutes all cases of rape and aggravated rape with adult victims; child sexual abuse and severe physical abuse of child victims, and elder and vulnerable adult abuse.
