MEMPHIS – Aug. 29, 2014 - The mother of a four-month-old girl who died of drug toxicity last November has been indicted on reckless homicide charges, Shelby County Dist. Atty. Gen. Amy Weirich said Friday.
Catrina Perryman, 34, of the 4000 block of Debbidan Cove near North Graham, is charged in the death of her daughter, Isabella Chavez, who died at the home last Nov. 23.
Paramedics were called to the home where Perryman said her daughter had been having difficulty breathing and was turning blue.
The mother said the child was given only ibuprofen, but an autopsy showed she also had a level of Benadryl in her system that was several times the amount considered to be therapeutic for an adult.
The case is being handled by assistant district attorney Katie Ratton of the DA’s Special Victims Unit (SVU) which prosecutes cases of child sexual abuse and severe physical abuse of child victims; rape and aggravated rape of adult victims, and abuse of elderly and vulnerable adults.
SVU reviews child-victim cases cooperatively with Shelby County’s multi-agency Child Protection Investigative Team.
