MEMPHIS – Sept. 18, 2014 - A 57-year-old man has been convicted of aggravated arson for throwing a Molotov cocktail into an occupied liquor store last year, Shelby County Dist. Atty. Amy Weirich said Thursday.
Elvis Presley Strickland, who has six prior felony convictions, faces up to 40 years in prison when he is sentenced Oct. 27 by Criminal Court Judge James Beasley Jr.
Strickland was convicted of throwing a flaming gasoline-filled bottle into Coda’s Liquor Store on May 31 last year at 4707 South Third, causing smoke and fire damage.
He was arrested later at Shelby Drive and South Third wearing a black-and-red jumpsuit.
The case was handled by assistant district attorney Jose Leon of the DA’s Special Prosecution Unit (SPU) which seeks the maximum sentence allowed by law for repeat felony offenders.
