Man Convicted in Robbery, Stabbing Death of U of M Student

MEMPHIS – Oct. 23, 2014 - A Criminal Court jury on Thursday convicted a 20-year-old man in the robbery and stabbing death last year of a University of Memphis student, said Shelby County Dist. Atty. Gen. Amy Weirich.
Aaron Vasquez, 19, a musician and honor student, was working at the El Toro Loco restaurant at 2809 Kirby when Cordricus Arnold stabbed him to death on March 23, 2013.
Arnold said he stabbed Vasquez behind the restaurant while the victim was emptying trash and then stole his wallet, keys and vehicle. The defendant’s statement was read to the jury.
Jurors convicted Arnold of murder in the perpetration of a felony which carries an automatic sentence of life in prison.
Judge W. Mark Ward presided in the trial.
The case was handled by assistant district attorneys Pam Stark and Reginald Henderson.
