MEMPHIS – Oct. 31, 2014 - A defendant in a burglary case stopped his trial Thursday and announced he wanted to plead guilty, said Shelby County Dist. Atty. Gen. Amy Weirich.
Alonzo Lee, 44, and another man were arrested on March 23 last year after witnesses saw them burglarize a home on Kenwood in the High Point Terrace area, stealing a laptop and television set.
They drove off in a green van with a flat tire and when police spotted the vehicle a few blocks from Kenwood the men jumped out and ran.
Police found Lee and codefendant Seddrick Curry a short time later hiding under separate vehicles in the neighborhood. The laptop and TV were found in the van.
Curry, 41, who has an extensive criminal record, pleaded guilty earlier this year to aggravated burglary and theft of property over $1,000. He was sentenced to 30 years in prison.
Lee pleaded guilty to the same charges and was sentenced to 12 years.
The case was handled by assistant district attorneys Stacy McEndree and Jose Leon.
