MEMPHIS – Dec. 1, 2014 - Shelby County Dist. Atty. Gen. Amy Weirich and the DA’s Victim/Witness Unit staff will host the fourth annual “Season of Remembrance,” a ceremony honoring the memory of lives lost to homicide or criminal acts in Memphis and Shelby County.
The "Season of Remembrance" ceremony will be at 5:30 p.m. on Monday Dec. 1 in the City Council Chambers at Memphis City Hall. A reception and check-in for families of homicide victims will begin at 5 p.m.
The ceremony and display are open to the public.
Families are welcome to bring an ornament in honor of their loved ones, regardless of the year in which their lives were taken. During the ceremony, families will place their ornaments on wreaths which will be displayed inside the Hall of Mayors throughout the holiday season.
“This is our way to publicly acknowledge the importance of each life lost to violence here in Shelby County,” said Gen. Weirich, who encourages the public to visit the display during the holidays. “Not one of these victims should ever be forgotten.”
Rabbi Micah Greenstein, Senior Rabbi at Temple Israel, is the featured speaker.
The program also will include performances by soloist Terika Dean and the St. Agnes Academy a cappella vocal group Ladies First.
Nick Kenney of WMV-TV Channel 5 will make welcoming and closing remarks.
