MEMPHIS – Nov. 6, 2014 - A northeast Memphis man has been convicted of aggravated assault and domestic assault in an incident that included pointing a gun at a woman’s head, Shelby County, said Shelby County Dist. Atty. Gen. Amy Weirich.
Rene Ramirez, 41, of the 2000 block of Ptarmigan Trail, faces up to six years in prison when he is sentenced in December by Criminal Court Judge W. Mark Ward.
Witnesses said Ramirez was angry and intoxicated on Sept. 28 last year when he pointed a handgun at the head of his children’s mother and threatened to kill her.
They have lived together for 10 years and have three children.
Ramirez is in the Shelby County Jail awaiting sentencing.
The case was handled by assistant district attorney Chris West of the DA’s Intimate Partner Domestic Violence Prosecution Unit.
The unit prosecutes felony cases of domestic assault and homicide committed by intimate partners. The unit also works closely with the Shelby County Family Safety Center to provide services and assistance to domestic violence victims and their families.
