Man Convicted of First-Degree Murder in Kitchen Shooting

MEMPHIS – Nov. 6, 2014 - A Parkway Village man has been convicted of first-degree murder in the shooting death last year of his brother in law during an argument, Shelby County Dist. Atty. Gen. Amy Weirich said Thursday.
Kervin Jackson, 30, was automatically sentenced to life in prison Wednesday evening by Criminal Court Judge Bobby Carter.
According to testimony, 20-year-old Taumarein Covington was seated at a kitchen table when Jackson pulled a handgun and shot him several times.
The incident occurred on Jan. 13 last year in the 4000 block of Villagreen Drive.
Jackson was arrested nearby a short time later with the loaded handgun on his side, three additional magazines with eight-bullets each in his pocket and 18 bullets in a towel in another pocket.
The case was handled by assistant district attorneys Paul Goodman and Muriel Malone.
